Buy leather-bound books?

No matter how careful a ten year old child I would never buy leather - one careless moment and an extremely costly volume is damaged or destroyed by leaving it outside, buy spilling a drink on it etc. Children's things should be study and durable but not so costly that when something happens they are not so easy to replace.
